Supermarkets in Moraira

Like many parts of Spain, Moraira doesn’t have big supermarkets like Tesco or Asda etc but relies on smaller shops. This can make it difficult for visitors to know where to get the best products at the best price. Today we’re sharing all our tips to help you find the best supermarkets in Moraira and save some money.

MERCADONA

Carrer Moraira, s/n, 03726 El Poble Nou de Benitatxell

09:00 – 21:30 Monday to Saturday. Sundays open in Jul-Aug

+ Very affordable. Great for basic vegetables and fruits. They have a good selection of vegan and gluten-free products. Good fish counter. They also have a large beauty and hygiene aisle with some drugstore brands.

– Although it is good for everyday pantry staples, Mercadonna can be a bit “basic”. Most products are from their own “Mercadonna” brand so the choice is limited.

MAS y MAS

Partida. Paichi

+ Decent meat counter. They have a large selection of good quality and affordable wines.

– Their fruit and vegetable selection is terrible…not the freshest or the best quality. The choice is quite limited in other aisles. Good to pick up a few items but I wouldn’t recommend doing your weekly shopping there.

PEPE La SAL (the big one)

Ctra. Moraira-Teulada, 54

08:30 – 21:00 Monday to Saturday. Sunday closed.

+ Best place in Moraira for fresh herbs and more “unusual” vegetables and fruits. Extensive offer of foreign products ( English, French, Greek, Asian, Dutch) etc. They have a selection of expensive spirits and champagnes/wines. Great if you’re looking for exotic products. Some gluten-free and vegan products. Their meat and cheese counter is also very good.

– It’s not cheap. If you are planning to do all your shopping here, be prepared to spend quite a lot. The basic fruit and vegetable aisle is not great, the quality can be quite poor at times. Stay away from the bread and cake aisle….most of the products are frozen.

+ They have products from all over Europe as well as some Asian and American products. Great cheese counter. The fruits and vegetables are on the pricey side but are good quality. They also have a home section with appliances, cutlery, pans, garden equipment etc. Good wine selection. Selection of vegan and gluten-free products too.

SUPERCOR EXPRES

 Ctra. Moraira a Calpe, 1

08:00 – 00:00 Everyday

+ Perfect for emergency shopping on weekends or late in the evening. The shop is small but has some good products you don’t find anywhere else. They have a nice selection of beers ( IPA, South-American and even Valencian ones). They have a newspaper stand and a cigarette vending machine. They also sell some basic home goods (cutlery etc).

– Pricey! We don’t recommend you do a big shop here. It gets very crowded on Sunday afternoons.
